To provide our bird hunting clients with the highest quality retriever training services available in the Southwestern United States. Being avid hunters ourselves, we are well aware of the skills required of a dog in the field (working to foster drive, obedience and good citizenship).
The principals of Harmony Mountain Retrievers have owned and worked with labrador retrievers, standard poodles, and a variety of rescue dogs for 40 years and truly enjoy them. Richard, Harmony Mountain Retrievers' CEO, is an avid bird hunter, with real-life field experience and a proven ability to train hunting dogs for the field and for hunt tests. His desire to continually seek positive methods to train your (and our own) hunting dogs, resulted in his enrollment in the Animal
Behavior College to acquire
his dog training certification. He graduated from this intensive one-year program on 9/26/2007 (view Richard's certification). Lori, Harmony Mountain Retrievers' President, graduated from the Animal Behavior College, receiving her dog training certification, on 9/05/2007 (view Lori's certification). (She grew up in a family of hunters and works well within all aspects of the hunting world.)
To facilitate Harmony Mountain Retrievers' training goals, its principals purchased 20 acres at the foothills of the Harmony Mountains (hence the name). Even Cabelas has labeled land in the area "trophy" property because of the turkey and deer which are abundant there. Harmony Mountain Retrievers' property is:
- 10 minutes (8 miles) south of Cedar City, Utah (home to Southern Utah University and a gateway to Zion and Bryce National Parks);
- 40 minutes (45 miles) north of St. George, Utah;
- 2 hours north of Las Vegas, Nevada;
- 3 hours south of Salt Lake City, Utah;
- 15 minutes west of the Dixie National Forest; and
- Surrounded by state and federal land
Property plans include a 3 to 5 acre, nearly-cleared training field for beginners work; at least 5 acres of semi-forested land for more advanced training; and a separate training pond. A boarding facility for dog's from other areas will also be constructed (or in-house boarding will be made available at a higher cost for the "pampered" bird dog).
Future plans and pictures will be revealed as they are established.
