OFA Verification (CHIC 88988). Several of Tule's relatives have also had extensive genetic testing done on them, verifiable on OFA's site (although many have been PennHIP'd and the owners did not pay the extra $$$ to have hip results posted on OFA's site. However, she comes from a line of good-to-excellent-hipped dogs.)
Tule was DNA tested by UC Davis. The University identified 33 genetic markers for each dog (66 total genes as there is one gene from each parent per marker). Tule's genes will be compared to those of other tested poodles, allowing us to choose the most diverse mate for her (Moshe is high on the list). Diversity is said to strengthen immune systems, furthering the improvement of health within our own program and our breed. The University's test also includes markers in the Dog Leukocyte Antigen (DLA) class I and II regions, which regulate cellular and antibody immunities and are carefully weighed in our pairings.
In addition to providing Tule's marker numbers, the following paragraphs indicate the frequencies of those markers in tested standard poodles.
1) DLA I Haplotypes (proxy of genes which regulate cellular mediated immunity): 1004 (10.7% frequency in Standards) and 1013 (1% frequency in Standards).
2) DLA II Haplotypes (proxy of genes which regulate antibody mediated immunity): 2002 (10.7% frequency in Standards) and 2003 (9.7% frequency in Standards).
3) 23 out of 33 possible gene pairs are different in Tule's parents.
4) 23 out of 66 of Tule's possible genes have a frequency of less than 20% in Standard Poodles.
Her mom, INT'l CH Tudorose Henrietta Ann, JH, and dad, U-SH Tudorose Royal Flush RN, JH, JWP, WC, HIC, CGC have been genetically tested for the most common poodle problems. While not registered with OFA, her sire (Brag) tested in the 90th percentile with PennHIP (meaning 90% of standard poodles have worse hips than him). Tule's mom also passed her hip test.
Both of Tule's parents are hunt titled.
Tule is a high-spirited dog who is always at the center of play. She is a solid girl, with lots of drive and muscle, allowing her to out-perform larger dogs in play.
She is not fond of water, not afraid just prefers not to go in the water. I'm sure she would have gone in and eventually adapted with water forcing (a hunt training technique). However, because we have plenty of other dogs who don't mind the water, Rich has only trained her for upland work--and she is great at it. (The pictures to the left were taken on 9-29-2013.)
Among many of the things we love about Tule, is an inviting spirit. She literally loves all humans. She treats each person who enters our home as if they are her best friend, tunneling through their legs and making everyone smile.
Tule was entered in four conformation shows on 3/10-3/11/2012. She earned her National and International Puppy Championships with the highest ratings available. Tule won two "Best of Breed Puppy" and one reserve Group "Best Puppy" (see certificates below her title links). Entering Tule in the show was a last minute decision, and she had been shaved almost to the skin a couple of weeks prior (which is not favored by the judges), so we were thrilled she did so well despite it all.
